As gunmen attacked six Hummer buses carrying employees of the Independent National Electoral Commission, two active corps members and four ex-corps members who served as ad hoc staff during the March 18 governorship and house assembly elections in Kogi state have been reported missing.
On Sunday, March 19, 2023, at around two in the morning, an incident happened in Obajana that resulted in gunshot wounds to a number of officials, including police officers and drivers.
One of the drivers, who was shot in the leg, claimed that they were attacked by the gunmen as they were returning to Lokoja from Abujor Camp with the results of the House of Assembly election.
In a statement, SP Williams Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi police command, acknowledged the attack and claimed that while 96 INEC staff workers were saved, the corps members are still missing.
Aya said that the criminal investigation department’s deputy commissioner has been given a mandate by the police commissioner to launch a thorough investigation with the goal of capturing the offenders and bringing them to their proper due process.
