ABSTRACT

This research work was conduct to find out the effect of social responsibility on business organization the trend contemporary to the business organization of our time is that the organization own certain responsibility to the area, more specifically the indigenes or inhabitant of the environment in which the business operated and the manpower working for employment, scholarship, security water for the organization.    Among such this is what determines organization standard and also their effort toward improving their efficient in essences, there is an irrefutable need for consideration of an organization reaction to demand posed by societal elements on it.  The need for social responsibility on business organization is over emphasized because it is what show how interested on organization is an the part of area they are operating.  Consequently, this research work conduct an introspective and analytical surveillance on the effect of social responsibility on business organization. These project also have an array of suggestion on how encourage and improve the organization behavior in such manner to sensitize they on the need to discharge their social responsibilities. In the introductory chapter the background statement of the problem, significance of the study, purpose of the study, research question, hypothesis and scope of the study will be toiled to suit their purpose as well as a guide toward a better comprehension of the study.  The second chapter an elaborate review of literature will be carried out, various authors experts on certain components of research topic will be reviewed and employed to throw more light on this present study.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

This introduction to the special issue to contextualize and critical comment on the current trajectory on the effect of social responsibility on business organization.    Effect is a change produced by action. It is the lighting sound or scenery used in a play.  Social responsibility are what the business expect from the society. Social responsibility is an obligation of any organization by show interest on the issue of responsibility. Business organization is an organization which main aim is to satisfy its own need and other needs. Business is important in any organization and society because it increase profit.

The effect of social responsibility on business organization is to encourage corporation to make notice on not only of the economic and financial dealings in a company but also the social and environmental. Consequences at business places on its share holder and society. The effect of social responsibility help firm to  develop new competencies, resources and capabilities which are manifested in a firm’s cultural, technology, structure, and human resources. B It also help management develop better scanning, skills, processes and information system, which increase the organization.

 

1.1  BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The effect of social responsibility could be defined as the recognition that business activities have some impact on the entire society and the consideration of that impact in business decision making. Therefore most business sense of responsibility toward the communities in which the operate in new of the adverse effect of production operations on these communities. Some of these social adverse effect range from health hazards displacement human settlement to environment pollution.  Shell petroleum development company for instance has been grappling with the restive behavior of youths in it area of operation occasioned by the activities of oil companies.     Also output whether that of product and service could have adverse effect consumer some common example are cigarettes and medical drugs. Business for have the responsibility of educating user of their product or service on their correct usage in order to avoid side effects.  Business organizations also show that they are socially reasonable to their host communities by complimenting the effort of the government by providing infrastructure facilities like schools, hospital, tarred road and every supporting sports and culture.

It is with the foregoing in mind that the research carried out this to identify the effect of social responsibility in Enugu State as well as proffer solution to the likely problem associated with discharging it.

Also research carried out by Nkilio and Ikatamba (2010) and Gisch-Boic (2008) have in the same line also highlighted the various effect of social responsibility activities that companies are engaged in including environmental responsibility, practices concerned with labour, worker health and safely as well as quality of life of the community.

 

1.2  STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

A socially responsible company should supersede its main objective of maximizing its share holders wealth. It extends its mandate by undertaking social and environmental activities in society within which it carries out its operations through initiatives such as environment conservation, improving the quality or life of its employees and society in general and also being transparent in its business operations.   Organization encounters some problem that effects them negatively.     

Such problem are as follows:

  1. Some organization have insufficient managerial and financial resources to undertake social charges.
  2. Some organization could not fit in because of legal protection from the government of the state.
  3. Social valves of some communities effect the operation activities of business organization.
  4. The contribution of social problem based on personal responsibility effect negatively on business organization.
  5. Pollution normally effect the society around the business operation and the organization usually stop operation because of their disturbance in an area for all the above problem the researcher thought it worthy to go into the study.

1.3  OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The main aim of the study was to determine the effect of social responsibility on business organization and performance. The following objective were used to explain or describe.

  1. To identify the effect of social responsibility on business organization.
  2. To find out the benefit of social responsibly to the organization and individuals.
  3. To determine the effect of social responsibility on business organization and performance.
  4. To determine whether organization should embark on social responsibility.
  5. To establish the trend of business operation and performance of the corporations.

 

 

 

1.4  SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research work will be useful in the following ways:

  1. It will enable business organization in Enugu State to carry function of social responsibility better.
  2. This work will identify and examine some area where business organization in Enugu State would have to make adjustment.
  3. It is the hope of the researcher that this work be a reference point to other researcher.
  4. The study will help management learn how to avoid stronger relationship with they supplies, customers, and the community.
  5. The investor will know how senior management take into consideration the interests of consumers, regulators employees and other important group that are effected by the company activities.
  6. The general public will be informed of the various approaches in which an entity can undertake social and environmental activities aimed at improving on the quality of life in the community, workplace, market place, and generally giving back to society.

This will lead to increased human benefit and satisfaction through quality services and goods.

1.5  SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This research is to identify and analyze the effect of social responsibility on business organization in Enugu State.

The study will be limited to  just  Emene  Rice Milling company Enugu due to its easy accessibility. This research work was constrained by limited finance uncooperative attitude of some.

 

 

 

1.6  LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

In carrying out this research work the researcher was faced with certain constraints which includes time poor cooperation from the respondent of what can be described as negative attitude of the respondents.   On the issue of time constraints the researcher due to loss activities and some other department activities that was being done along in with the research work.

Finance also stand as one of the major constraint in carrying out this research work because the capital to carryout this research work properly respondents.

 

1.7  RESEARCH QUESTION

  1. What social responsibility organization is obliged to discharge?
  2. What causes social responsibilities to be discharged?
  3. Do organization respond to societal request?
  4. Why and also who should benefit from social responsibilities of business organization?
  5. What can the government do if business firms refrain from discharging their social responsibilities?
  6. And finally what legal backing allows the organization to discharge its social possibilities.

 

1.8  DEFINITION OF TERMS

Effect is a change produced by action.

Social responsibility it an investment and contributions to the wider community designed to help create the healthy environment that a company requires to survive and operate efficiently.

Business organization is an organization which an is to satisfy its own need and other needs. Business is important in any organization.

Term  in effect of social responsibility is a mission as well as a give to what the company stand for and will uphold to its consumer development business ethics is one of the form of applied ethics that examines ethical principles and moral or ethical problem that can rise in a business environment.

Corporate responsibility interest: This is call creating shared valves of csu. The shared valve model is based on the idea that corporate success and social welfare and interpedently.

A business needs a healthy, educated, warfare sustainable resources and adopt government to complete effectively. For society to thrive, profitable and competitive business must be dependent and supported to create income wealth, tax revenues an opportunities.
