INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
It is a general recognized fact that we are in an information age in which the efficiency of production of wealth depends on various form of Automation. The purpose and aim of this project is not to train computer experts rather, the objective is to gain understanding in computer and how computer in poultry farm has improved service of worker rather than manual operation and also to gain enough understanding of computer hardware and software, make intelligent decision about them, how to put them into operation by computer operator in poultry farm and accuracy of computer in the poultry farm management system.
Hence Ezeazu poultry Farm Ltd daily operation are being carried out manually and this particular project is design to provide a farm work in which computer can be applied in all their Farm operation like record keeping of Disease, production record, keeping of bird’s feeds, medications, egg production, sales finance and decision making by the management etc.
Implementation of this project case study is divided into the designation of the converted system investigation and analysis of the existing manually operated system thus the method of getting data, processing the data into information have large benefit on individual. And the impact of computer has improved human thought and actions.
Lastly a question that is now facing the management is how the computer will affect the number of people requiring managing the poultry farm. The goal of the organization is to reach through in the use of human and material resources.
The motivation of this project is to identify the problems that inhabits Ezeazu poultry farm and find solution to them. To retrieve the existing technology for poultry farm and discover the problem associated with such system and provides solution to it.
At the end of this research we will develop an appropriate technology for poultry farm, which will formally replace the manual method of proper implementation. This will make the operation and activities easier and faster in keeping of records of sales reduce time wasting in processing and information obtained through this will be more reliable and can be accessed anytime. A computerize information system will contribute to the ever-increasing desire to process information at the shorter time and limit.
1.2 Statement of Problems
The use of the computer have expanded so rapidly that there present can no longer be denied. Every research work is carried out with a view to contribute immensely to the knowledge and to offer suggested solution to the identification of problems and the major aims of this project is redesign. Ezeazu poultry farm Ltd which is manually operated into a computer based system to help in speeding up the operations. The problems are
- Time wasted: Inefficiency in production processes e.g records of preservation, medication, birds, feeds and all the sales made because they are being operated manually.
- Manual method of data storage: The method of storage that the current system is using is very bulky and disorganized. That even having a backup is a big problem and when something happens to the data was stored there it cannot be restored.
- Inadequate calculation: Records of production, medication, feeds and sales made are sometimes been miscalculated due to manual method of calculation.
These problems are what call for computerization of poultry farm operations in the management system.
1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study
The introduction of computer in poultry farm is to see how it could affect the attributes and services of the farm, looking at the future of poultry farm, it need to examine the role of computer, their usefulness in classifying speeding and storing up the flow of information.
And also to see how computer in poultry farm improves the service of keeping record of sales rather then manual operation, example of organization of daily record of financial information which is helpful in maintaining desired inventory level.
- To make the operation in the sectors to be more efficient and fast.
- It enhances quick decision-making.
- It increases efficiency and minimized error in writing record.
- It eliminates all the problems associated with the existing system while meeting the management goals, thereby making processing very fast.
1.4 Scope of the Study
Poultry farm is very wide and large of which I cannot finish everything in it. So I then narrow my research on breeding of fowl more especially, layers which are more profitable in rearing due to constant dropping of eggs. The importance and need for the implementation of a computer based operation by the management in a typical poultry farm Ezeazu poultry farm Ltd Nteje, Anambra State in the area that concern record keeping, payroll inventory, sales etc.
1.5 Significance of the Study
The importance of this project is to produce a system that will be able to eradicate the problem of manual operations and activities in poultry farming, and to improve the service through the use of computer.
1.6 Limitations of the Study
Things that affect the progress of this project are as follows;
1 Distance from Lagos State to Nteje in Anambra State in area of transport fare.
2 Confidentiality; in the course of this research I discovered that data related to computerization of poultry farm were difficult to obtain most of the information required were considered secret due to bird flow. These make it impossible to have brake through on time.
3 Time constraint; with due respect and consideration to the limited time, coupled with research, the above mention has constituted a great limitation.
1.7 Definition of terms
There are many terminology used in poultry farm management system which has its meaning like;
Poultry: – Refers to birds, which are domesticated to men.
Feeding: – It is the first food for recently hatched chickens.
Farm: – A track of kind meant for growing crop and animals.
Layer: – Both young and old that is laying egg.
Incubation: – Process of providing fertilized egg with optimum condition of temperature; relative humidity and air flow necessary for the development of the chicken & their successful hatching.
Grower: – Chickens that are 7 weeks and above.
Dubbing: – This is the removal of portion of comb grow bigger.
Vent nary: – A doctor in charge of drugs.
Culling: – removal of unwanted chicken from the flock.
Mortality: – The rate at which the birds dies.
Sick- Bay: – A room where sick birds are kept treated experimental before trying new drugs.
Breeding: – The process of keeping bird in order to breed from them.
Pen: – A pen is a home (room) where birds are domesticated.
Brooding: – This is the process of taking care of chicks from day to day.
Poultry Farming: – Poultry farming is the process of selection, breeding, feeding, and caring and also marketing of do masticated fowl.
