ABSTRACT
With the advance in technology more in particular in the field of computer related organization, a lot of things are now automated. As a matter of fact, Information technology has a vital role in the design and implementation of online student admission system. Almost all our Higher Institution has gone into online student admission system because of the extraordinary benefit resulting from information technology. Information technology has enabled an online administration system to work successfully. With this online student admission system, students’ data/information are well collected, processed and stored for the management purpose. The aim of student admission process for higher education courses. Its basic objectives are to extend their reach to geographically scattered students, reducing time in activities, centralized data handling and paperless admission with reduced manpower. Its other factors are cost cutting, operational efficiency, consist view of data and integration with other institutions. Main challenges are effectively sync internal and external operations in such a manner that job can be finished within time limit and integration with different agencies on an agreed upon common data format.

INTRODUCTION
Education encompasses our lives. It is the foundation of our society. Education helps to stimulate our minds and mold inquisitive minds into intellectuals. Higher learning takes the intellect to the next level, providing a deeper understanding of the world around us. We use the education and higher learning resources below to learn more about our world, its education systems, and its benefits of higher learning. With environmental awareness on the rise, so many resources are now available to help transition your school to a greener place. The most important way to move your school towards positive changes for the environment is by educating. Once students and teachers alike become more informed and aware, the necessary changes will be easier to implement and will hold more promise for staying in place.
Societies have always sought to educate their people to be productive and creative, and to satisfy their curiosity and aesthetic impulses. This has only happened when people acquired reliable knowledge and think systematically. Education has appeared in many forms, both formalized and informal. Major thinkers have always recognized the educational value of intellectual exploration and of concrete experimentation.
Major advances in education occurred throughout the world in the 20th century as school and college curricula have kept students abreast of developments in science and technology. Student admissions are a vital part of any university’s running because students are what keep a University alive. The student admission is one of the most important activities within a university as one cannot survive without students. A poor admissions system can mean fewer students being admitted into a university because of mistakes or an overly slow response time and student also feel very nervous after getting admission in bad university due to lack of admission process knowledge. For all things, it is necessary that one get much educated about online admission process and this is only possible when they will choose best system for admission.
BACKGROUND
Every community in Enugu State has at least one Primary/Elementary school and one Secondary school, funded and run by State Government. There are also large numbers of private nursery, primary and secondary schools in Enugu State.
Nigeria’s first indigenous university, (University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)), is located in Enugu State. The state also hosts the Enugu State University of Science & Technology (ESUT), Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Federal Cooperative College, Oji River (FCCO), Enugu State College of Education Technical, Enugu, Caritas University, Amorji-Nike, Renaissance University, Ugbawka; Federal Government College Enugu, Federal School of Dental Technology & Therapy College of Immaculate Conception, Enugu; Queen’s School Enugu a Prominent high school for girls in the Eastern region; St. Theresa’s College, Nsukka; Special Science Boys’ Secondary School Agbani, Nkanu West l.g.a; [St. Patrick’s Secondary School], Emene;Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu; Awgu County College, Nenwe; Community Secondary School, Ugbo-Okpala, Ugbo; Corpus Christi College, Achi, [ Royal Crown Academy, Nsukka, Enugu State, Enugu]; Our Saviour Institute of Science and Technology, Enugu; and the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Seat of Wisdom Secondary School Trans Ekulu Enugu. There are also a host of private computer schools and training centres concentrated in Enugu and Nsukka.
Enugu State is one of the states in the eastern part of Nigeria. The state shares borders with Abia State and Imo State to the south, Ebonyi State to the east, Benue State to the northeast, Kogi State to the northwest and Anambra State to the west.
Enugu, the capital city of Enugu State, is approximately 2½ driving hours away from Port Harcourt, where coal shipments exited Nigeria. Enugu is also located within an hour’s drive from Onitsha, one of the biggest commercial cities in Africa and 2 hours drive from Aba, another very large commercial city, both of which are trading centers in Nigeria. The average temperature in this city is cooler to mild (60 degrees Fahrenheit) in its cooler months and gets warmer to hot in its warmer months (upper 80 degrees Fahrenheit) and very good for outdoor activities with family and friends or just for personal leisure.
Enugu has good soil-land and climatic conditions all year round, sitting at about 223 metres (732 ft) above sea level, and the soil is well drained during its rainy seasons. The mean temperature in Enugu State in the hottest month of February is about 87.16 °F (30.64 °C), while the lowest temperatures occur in the month of November, reaching 60.54 °F (15.86 °C). The lowest rainfall of about 0.16 cubic centimetres (0.0098 cu in) is normal in February, while the highest is about 35.7 cubic centimetres (2.18 cu in) in July.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Owing to (i) the difficulties student encounter in manual filling and submission of ESCET forms (ii) time wasted in getting information from ESCET officers on how to fill the form. (iii) Loss of some submitted forms due to mismanagement of ESCET officers and (iv) Long queue the students face in collecting their ESCET Receipts, the need arises for the development of online student admission system to alleviate these problems.
1.3 PURPOSE OF STUDY
The sole purpose of this study is to put to an end the difficulties students face or encounter during admission. This is achieved by software online student admission system which is user friendly and easy to implement, students will no longer be in danger of losing their submitted forms or information.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
With the growth of information technology, the study offers numerous values not only to students but also to the ESCET board. The board doesn’t have to spend any is other resources by sending admission letter to students rather they make their money when students buy scratch cards to check either their results or information.
The students can easily get information by visiting ESCET website without consulting any ESCET officer. Student no longer suffer the consequences of the wrong information sent by some ESCET officer due to mismanagement. Above all, the knowledge of students and ESCET officers towards information technology is enhanced.
1.5 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of this project is listed below:
v To develop a software that replaces manual filling and submission of ESCET form.
v To stop or solve the problems students face during payment of various fee.
v To help the management in the effective distribution of ESCET information.
v To help the management to ensure the effective collection of students data.
v To help the management effectively manage students data
All these contribute to make sure that students’ data are well processed at right time.
1.6 SCOPE OF STUDY
This project work is narrowed to Institute of Management and Technology Board and her students. It deals with the designing of online student admission system. The program will help students get information concerning (i) ESCET admission (ii) ESCET history (iii) Admission requirement (iii) ESCET courses requirement.
Students can still get history information about the Institute of Management and Technology Board. The program will be self-explanatory and interactive.
1.7 LIMITATION OF STUDY
Owing to the scope of this project as mentioned above, this project work is limited to students who want to attend Institute of Management and Technology only. It is important to mention that time was a major constraint in the course of fact finding.
It is also wise to mention here that some information we need to work with was not collected because of unwillingness of the board to reveal such information.
1.8 ASSUMPTION OF STUDY
One of the major assumption made in this project the work is that manual filling and submission of ESCET forms are ineffective, time wasting and prone to either misplacement or mismanagement of students data by ESCET officers.
It is also assumed that with the level of development in information technology, there is a serious demand to join this trend of information technology.
It is also assumed that online student admission system is more economical to the board when compared to the manual method.
