ABSTRACT
This project work was designed to know the importance of laundry operation in hospitality industry. It was carried out using the secondary method of data collection.It was observed that grand hotel adopts these steps in their laundry operations; sorting out coloured cloths before washing, treats coloured cloths in order out to fade away.
The project suggest that adequate laundry processes should be property followed in order to achieve effective and efficience service these will imply high turn-over which generate revenue to the hospitality industry.

- INTRODUCTION
Laundry is defined as a place where clothes are been washed and ironed by the use of washing machines and dryers.
TYPES OF LAUNDRY OPERATIONS
The following are types of laundry operation
- Commercial laundry service
- Hospitality commercial laundry
- Industrial laundry
COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY SERVICE: It require the separation of soiled and clean linen. Government regulations set specific standard for processing the linen. The ability to meet the government regulation and maintain high quality and production is critical.
HOSPITALITY COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY: This process on either a rental or customer owned good basis. Batch sizes, account separation, weight or piece count, logistics, and production goals are critical components for a profitable operation.
INDUSTRIAL LAUNDRY: Provide apparel and career rental services processing services vary depending on the type of uniforms and other apparel required by the customer’s business. Its Important that all garments be clean, confortable, and safe. from uniforms to image wear to clean room garments, industrial laundries keep their customers looking good.
- BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In some of the present day hotels, laundry is becoming more and more important. For the effective and efficient operation of the departments dirty linen are collected from all sections and departments of the hotels to the laundry section for washing and thorough ironing. This applied to the washing of guest cloths and that of staff (Udi 2003)
This is not just for the benefit of the guest, but also for the benefit and improvement or growth of the hotels, especially in the aspect of making money for the establishment.
Therefore, it should be noted that this write up (project) is not just intended to teach and explain how the laundry department function but rather to understand its uses, its benefits and the problems associated with laundry service.

As the general peace of life increases, so the hotel industry needs to respond to changing demands of its guests or customers. The speed with which it can change often affects the cost of providing the services and the profitability of the venture. 1.1.2 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF GROUND HOTEL ASABA
Ground hotel asaba was established in the year 1994 by suniodogu, the name was given based on variables, he wanted something unique and not common. Through his wealth of experience while in overseas/abroad.
This hotel started with 20(twenty) individuals as staff and twenty seven (27) number of rooms which includes standard, standard deluxe, executive deluxe, executive ground, presidential deluxe, suite deluxe are all in that twenty seven (27) rooms the same as it is now. Suniodogu was relating well with his staff as an individual (sole proprietor) in other for the staff to put in their best white working he motivate his staffs by promoting them, appreciating them when necessary. Yes knowing the views of the staff is essential because they are the one that comes in contact with the guests today the hotel has expand and the number of rooms there now is forety (40) with a good customer servile and one can make booking or reservations on internet. In star rating of hotel this hotel falls on the four star rating of hotel I think that is all I know about ground hotel Asaba Delta state.
- STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Most of the problems that are usually encounted by hotel in the laundry department is due to their or its inability to finance the laundry operation or unit frequent break down of the machines, in-experience staff in operation, the particular, soap detergent for washing, failure of power supply and separation of colours when washing.
1.3 OBJECTIVES OR PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The aims and objectives of this study is based mainly on the usefulness of the application of laundry department in the hospitality industry. Some years back, linen where being collected together and washed even without knowing the effect of colour combination, the particular soap to be use, not until laundry was introduced into the establishment.
The laundry department has become of value to those in hospitality industry as a whole if the washing machines is used in washing dirty linen, it makes sure that all the stains seen and unseen are removed and well iron and packed. This helps in the growth of the organization because, It is all over needed in the organization eg the chef, food and beverages section, house keeper also, The management need to was and iron their dirty linen, with this, many of the hotel industry have increase in providing laundry service.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The significance laundry to any hospitality industry cannot be over emphasized because laundry has really been making things easier for both the establishment (hotels), and guest even the staffs of the hotel industry in our society today.
Despite the cost of the laundry equipment, they are normally measured by their speed of operation.
The laundry department helps the hoteliers a lot in the aspect of washing of linen and the removal of some stains from different surface of line. They also at times helps in the amendments of the different torn and worn-out linen in the laundry.

1.7 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The status of the environment and the class status of the laundry also affect the result of the study. Time was a limitation of this study.
1.8 DEFINITION OF TERMS
Different terms are used in the course of writing this project. Therefore, each term is going to be defined in order to give self explanatory guied to individual when reading.

DIRT: Here, dust is mixed with grease or moisture, moist dirt, ie mod sticky films which must be washed.
DRY CLEANING: Is the removal of soil (dirty) from linen by the means of solvent.
LINEN: This is obtained from the stem of flax plant.
GUEST: They are referred to as customers.
CATERING: It can be defined as a vacation which specialized in providing food, and drink for the comfort of a guest or customer.
MANAGEMENT: The oxford dictionary defined management as the control and making of decision in a business or similar organization.
